UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) is conducted by NTA for determining eligibility for Assistant Professor and/or Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. It covers 83 subjects. NET qualified candidates are eligible for college/university teaching. JRF additionally provides fellowship of ₹37,000/month for research.

Paper 1 (50 qs, 100M, 1 hr): Teaching Aptitude, Research Aptitude, Comprehension, Communication, Reasoning, Logical, Data Interpretation, ICT, People & Environment, Higher Education. Paper 2 (100 qs, 200M, 2 hrs): Subject-specific (from the chosen subject's full syllabus). Total: 300 marks, 3 hours. No negative marking.
UGC NET qualifies you for: Assistant Professor in central/state universities: Pay Level 10 (₹57,700 basic) to Level 14 (₹1,44,200) with AGP. JRF: ₹37,000/month (first 2 years) + ₹42,000/month (subsequent years) plus HRA. Government college Assistant Professor posts offer additional state government allowances.
