AP LAWCET 2026 – Andhra Pradesh Law Entrance Test

The Andhra Pradesh Law Common Entrance Test (AP LAWCET) is the annual state-level law entrance examination conducted by Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam (SPMVV), Tirupati, on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE). The exam is the sole pathway for admission to 3-year LLB and 5-year integrated LLB programmes offered by participating universities and affiliated law colleges across Andhra Pradesh for the 2026–27 academic session.

AP LAWCET is a genuinely accessible law exam — it has no negative marking, tests three manageable subjects (GK & Mental Ability, Current Affairs, and Law Aptitude), and accepts candidates from any graduation stream. Candidates need only 45% in their qualifying degree to be eligible, making it the primary law entrance pathway for a wide cross-section of AP graduates and Class 12 passouts.

The AP LAWCET 2026 notification was officially released by APSCHE on February 10, 2026, with the application portal opening two days later on February 12, 2026. The original last date to apply was extended, with the final deadline for regular applications set at March 20, 2026. Late applications were accepted with a sliding late fee (Rs. 1,000 to Rs. 10,000 depending on submission date). A correction window for form modifications was scheduled from April 8, 2026.

AP LAWCET is a unique law entrance exam in that it carries no negative marking — every unanswered question is simply zero, not a penalty. This makes the strategy simple: attempt everything. The exam's 90-minute window for 120 questions means roughly 45 seconds per question, which is very manageable for prepared candidates. The Part C (Aptitude for Study of Law) carries 60 of the 120 marks, making legal aptitude preparation the highest-return activity for AP LAWCET specifically.

The exam is conducted in bilingual mode (English and Telugu), giving Telugu-medium candidates a level field. Exam centres are spread across major AP cities including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur, Tirupati, Kurnool, and others.

Through AP LAWCET scores, candidates can secure seats at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar College of Law (Visakhapatnam), Andhra University's law departments, Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Sri Venkateswara University, Nagarjuna University, and their affiliated law colleges across the state.

AP LAWCET 2026 registration is conducted exclusively online through the official APSCHE portal: cets.apsche.ap.gov.in/LAWCET. Candidates create an account, fill in personal and academic details, upload required documents, select exam centre preferences (up to 6 centres in order of preference), and pay the application fee. The exam centre is allotted on a first-come-first-served basis based on preferences submitted.

A correction window is provided post-registration for modifying certain fields (qualifying exam, gender, Aadhaar details, place of study). Name, photograph, signature, and date of birth corrections require a written request to the Convenor with supporting documents.

AP LAWCET 2026 Age Limit

There is no upper age limit for AP LAWCET for either 3-year or 5-year LLB programmes. Candidates of any age who meet the academic qualifications are eligible to apply and appear.

AP LAWCET 2026 Educational Qualifications

3-Year LLB Programme: Must hold a Bachelor's degree in 10+2+3 pattern from a recognised university. Minimum 45% aggregate marks (42% for BC, 40% for SC/ST). Final-year graduation students can apply provisionally but must produce results before counselling.

5-Year Integrated LLB Programme: Must have passed Intermediate (10+2) or equivalent examination. Same minimum percentage requirements: 45% (OC), 42% (BC), 40% (SC/ST).

Eligibility Marks

Note: A minimum qualifying score of 35% in the AP LAWCET exam itself is required for counselling eligibility.

Nationality

Candidates must be Indian nationals meeting AP state's Local/Non-Local residence requirements. The APSCHE notification specifies reservation of seats for local candidates (domicile requirements for AP state government seats).

AP LAWCET tests candidates across 3 parts. Part C (Legal Aptitude) carries 60 marks — more than Parts A and B combined. This makes it the most critical section to master. The exam is bilingual (English and Telugu), and candidates can attempt questions in either language.

• Make Part C (Legal Aptitude) Your Priority: With 60 of 120 marks, Part C is where the exam is won or lost. Focus on Indian Constitution (Articles 12–35 on Fundamental Rights are essential), basic principles of Torts, and offer-acceptance mechanics in Contract law.
• Legal Reasoning — Principle + Fact Format: AP LAWCET regularly includes principle-based legal reasoning questions where you apply a given legal principle to a factual scenario. Practice these specifically — they test reasoning rather than knowledge rote.
• Attempt Everything (No Negative Marking): Unlike AILET and CLAT, AP LAWCET has zero negative marking. There is absolutely no strategic value in leaving questions blank. Budget 5 minutes at the end to fill any unattempted questions with your best guess.
• Current Affairs: 8-Month Window: Aim for the 8 months preceding the exam (September 2025 – April 2026 for the May 2026 exam). Keep a running note of judiciary-related news, AP-specific government developments, and national awards/appointments.
• Mental Ability in Part A: Syllogisms, number series, and data interpretation questions in Part A are quick marks if practised regularly. Spend 30 minutes daily on reasoning drills for 2 weeks to solidify this section.
• Previous Papers Are the Best Predictor: AP LAWCET question patterns repeat significantly year-on-year, especially in the legal aptitude section. Solving 3–5 years of previous papers gives a clear picture of high-frequency topics.

AP LAWCET past papers from 2020–2025 consistently show that Fundamental Rights (Articles 12–35), legal maxims (Ignorantia juris non excusat, Volenti non fit injuria, etc.), and principle-based reasoning questions appear every year in Part C. In Part B, AP state-specific current affairs (state government schemes, AP high court judgments, new AP laws) appear alongside national events. Practicing 4–5 years of papers is the most efficient way to identify these patterns.

The AP LAWCET 2026 admit card (Hall Ticket) is released online on the official APSCHE portal approximately 2–3 days before the exam date. Candidates download it by entering their application number, qualifying exam hall ticket number, and date of birth. Carrying the admit card is mandatory for entry to the exam centre — candidates without it are not permitted to appear.

APSCHE releases the AP LAWCET 2026 provisional answer key approximately 3 days after the exam (expected around May 7, 2026). Candidates can raise objections to specific answers within the specified window. After reviewing representations, APSCHE releases the final answer key, which is used to compute scores. AP LAWCET has a minimum qualifying score of 35% (42 marks out of 120) for general category candidates. Popular AP law colleges see merit-based cut-offs significantly above the qualifying minimum.

The AP LAWCET 2026 result is expected on May 18, 2026, on the official APSCHE portal. Candidates download their rank card by entering their application number and date of birth. The rank card shows the candidate's AP LAWCET score, category rank, and overall rank. Only candidates with ranks within the qualifying cut-off are eligible for counselling and seat allotment.

AP LAWCET 2026 counselling is conducted by APSCHE through the online portal (lawcet-sche.aptonline.in). Qualified candidates register for counselling, complete certificate verification, fill web options (college and branch preferences), and are allotted seats based on rank, category, and seat availability.
