RRB ALP (Assistant Loco Pilot) is one of Indian Railways' most prestigious operational posts. ALPs assist the Loco Pilot (driver) in operating trains — handling traction equipment, monitoring instruments, and taking over driving duties when required. After promotion to Loco Pilot (Mail/Express) and Senior Loco Pilot, it is among the best-paying posts in Group C railways.

CBT-2 Part B (75 qs, 60 mins, qualifying only): Trade-specific technical questions (pass/fail, does not affect merit). CBAT: Computer-Based Aptitude Test — visual memory, spatial reasoning, motion perception, coordination. 1/3 negative marking in CBT-1 and CBT-2 Part A.
RRB ALP at Level 2: Basic ₹19,900/month. Gross ₹32,000–₹48,000. After promotion to Loco Pilot Mail/Express (Level 6, ₹35,400 basic), gross salary reaches ₹65,000–₹80,000 with night duty allowance and locomotive allowance. ALP has one of the best promotion-to-salary trajectories in Group C railways.
